Moves Where digestion begins

Where digestion begins

Share

Most of us eat faster than we notice. A few chews, and it's gone.

In many traditions, eating slowly and chewing well is treated as the start of good digestion. Some research suggests it may help you feel full sooner, and eat a little less, though it varies from person to person. Some people find the food simply tastes more.

How fast does yours disappear?

What you'll need

  • Any meal you'd normally rush
  • A little patience, and no screen

Method

At your next meal, slow down. Put the fork down between bites.

Chew each mouthful until it's properly broken down, before you swallow.

Try it for a week of meals, and notice whether you feel full sooner, and how the food tastes when you slow down.
