Moves True hunger

True hunger

Share

We eat at the clock, at a smell, at a feeling, as often as at real hunger. The body's own signal is easy to miss.

In yoga and older ways of eating, you wait for true hunger, and stop at ease, not fullness. Some research links tuning in to hunger and fullness with a calmer, healthier relationship with food.

Is it hunger, right now, or something else?

What you'll need

  • A pause before you reach for food
  • Honesty about what you're feeling

Method

Before eating, pause and check, is this real, physical hunger, or habit, boredom, or feeling?

If it's hunger, eat, and notice the point where you're comfortably at ease, not stuffed.

Try it for a week, and notice how often true hunger is the reason, and what else sends you to food.
