The heat that builds
Hours at a desk, mostly still. The screen tends to pull the head forward.
Some people notice the back of the neck turning hot and tight as the day goes on. Some research links long stretches of static screen work with neck and shoulder discomfort, and points to short, regular breaks as helping.
Where does yours sit by the end of the day?
What you'll need
- The desk you're already at
- A free minute between tasks
Method
A couple of times through the workday, pause and turn your attention to your neck and shoulders.
Feel for the heat and the tightness. Let the shoulders drop, and roll the head slowly from side to side.
Give it a week of workdays, and notice whether the heat settles in the same place each time or shifts, and what a slow minute does to it.
