Rousing the body
We're up and moving before the body has really woken. We reach for a screen first thing, still half-asleep.
In the yogic morning, you rub the palms warm and rest them over the eyes. The hands are full of nerve endings, and rubbing them is said to wake the senses before the body even moves. Some people find a minute of this leaves them clearer than the phone ever does.
What wakes you, really, in the morning?
What you'll need
- The first minute after waking
- Your own two hands
Method
Before reaching for anything, rub your palms together until they're warm.
Press them over your eyes and face, then briskly over your arms, legs, and the back of your neck, waking the skin.
Do it first thing for a week, and notice how awake you feel after, and how the morning starts compared with reaching for the phone.
