The short fuse of a hot day

Share

Heat builds through the day. Most of us notice the small things start to land harder.

Some people find their patience runs shorter when they're overheated. In Ayurveda, summer heat is said to stir pitta, the body's fire, and with it a quicker temper. Some research points the same way, though it's far from settled.

When the heat climbs, which way does yours go?

What you'll need

  • Cool water
  • A shadier or cooler spot to step into

Method

When your patience frays on a hot day, stop before you answer.

Cool down first: a few sips of water, then splash your face and arms or step under a cool shower. One slow breath out, then come back to it.

Give it a week of hot afternoons, and notice whether your temper follows the heat.
