Around A handful of soil

A handful of soil

Share

Under the grass and the path, there's soil. Most of us walk over it without a thought.

A handful of living soil holds more tiny life than you could count. Nearly everything you eat grows out of it. In the yogic view, even your body is borrowed earth, the food you've eaten and the soil it grew in.

When did you last touch the earth?

What you'll need

  • Some soil, a garden, a pot, a patch of ground
  • Hands you don't mind getting dirty

Method

Find some soil, in a garden, a plant pot, a verge, anywhere real.

Take a handful. Feel the texture, the moisture, the temperature, the life in it.

Crumble it, smell it, let yourself notice it as something alive, not just dirt.

Come back to it now and then over a week, and notice how different soils feel, and what changes in you when you stop and touch the ground.
